Cabinetry
Claire designs for and co founded a cabinetry company, Modern English Cabinetry, collaborating with life long friend and talented artisan maker Malcolm Pitts. Together they have designed a new range specifically for Sonnenhof Juliet. A special finish has been created using a bandsaw like texture, deliberately rough in finish to achieve a relaxed rustic feel in contrast to the minimal and shaker like detailing. The simple detailing celebrates the materiality of the finish, planks of maple run continuous up vertically through the drawers, simple holes are created for handles and some decorative holes have been cut to echo traditional swiss carpentry. Maple was used to provide a contrasting hardwood to the oak floor. Timber was used rather than a painted finish to add warmth to a modern interior and to echo traditional chalet design

Paul Dennis - Pots
Paul Dennis personally selected some of his beautiful pots to dress the balcony for me. The earthiness and richness of the glazes add to the depth of natural textures in the project. The shapes are athletic and handsome, a little bit like their maker and my chief partner in crime.
Graphic Design
Everything starts somewhere and the branding for Sonnenhof Juliet was born from a design for the bedrooms. The wall behind the master bedroom headboard hasa rather ambitious hand painted pattern featuring local animals, the ibex, birds and marmots. The collaboration with my talented graphic designer friend Izzy Matthews and Marissa Kingsbury both of Peagreen resulted in the creation of a real statement piece with a very swiss flavour. The idea being to create an apartment that is more Swiss than a Swiss chalet through celebrating traditional Swiss folk art and styling.
The folk art continued on with hand painted scenes to the dresser also designed in collaboration with the wonderful talented Izzy and Marissa. Claire enjoys the creative process painting the extra layer of Swissness and the care and attention to detail is aimed to make you feel super special during your stay.
Art
The apartment is to be accessorised with original art pieces by my talented artist and friend, Sarah Darby who was an artist in residence at Sonnenhof juliet during the spring 23. Artwork doesn't get much more authentic than that!!
Sarah would like to do more Plein air painting in Saas-Fee, so if you'd like to commision her to create something for you please see her web link below and get in touch.

Upholstery
Bespoke upholstery items have made the things you touch extra special; from the velvet seat pad, goathide dining chairs. gingham window seat pads and headboard to the gingham ruffle cushions. It seemed it wasn't possible to have too much gingham as it looked so perfectly Swiss.
Antiques
Mary Hossack Antiques sourced the majority of the antique pieces in the apartment for me. Cross collecting is the interiors watch word of the moment. Investing in art and antiques, combined with contemporary objects and furniture in a modern interior. The antique furniture or work of art becomes a striking and unique piece in the room, adding authenticity to the interior. It's so much more homely than that look where you feel it could all have been chosen from a catalogue. With this in mind I asked Mary if she had anything with a Swiss feel to add to my interior and she came up with a beautiful selection of carved chairs and a red sofa. The old fashioned high back shape of the red sofa is actually really hug like and a favourite for both my son to make a nest in and and my father to sit up properly and feel supported. My Paul on the other hand will be found horizontal on the 4 seater sofa!
Fabrics
Fabrics have played a huge part in bringing the interior together. The fabrics I fell in love with were primarily from Schumacher, Zoffany and Pierre Frey. Bespoke blinds were made by Bakehouse Curtains and upholstered items by Market Harborough Upholstery. Please find links below to all the fabric companies used.
Furniture
Key furniture items were sourced in collaboration with the expertise of Coexistence, the CH24 Hans J. Wegner Cow Horn wishbone chairs and Ton stools compliment one another perfectly and feel more nordic than ever with the added goat hide.
Flooring
Schreinerei Imseng , Saas-Fee based carpenters situated next door to Sonnenhof supplied and fitted the stunning herringbone oak floor.
