Design-led Swiss Luxury

Designed by Claire Hart an, award winning architect, Sonnenhof-Juliet is an apartment in the heart of the idyllic village of Saas-Fee . The village is a classic Swiss, high alpine, car free resort that predates skiing.  The apartment ticks all the boxes with a ski to locker set-up, family friendly environment, level access, luxury high-end interior and eco friendly design.

"I feel like I have had a love affair with Switzerland.  I have created my dream apartment by embracing Swiss style: using exquisite fabrics, tactile timber, pattern, graphics, mixing old with new;  contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship. I hope the handmade, the choice of materials and the care taken will make for a beautiful cosy holiday home with a distinctly Swiss English feel and I'm looking forward to all my guests experiencing this special place I've created."

Our Story

“It all began one wonderful night over supper on our last night in Saas-Fee on our first ski trip to this lovely village.  It seemed like only days ago that I was grumbling to my other half that we had missed skiing this year as it was too far into Spring, and there would be no snow.  “Not if we go high.” he said, and sent me a link to of the highest resorts.  I picked Saas-Fee from the list for its guaranteed snow on its nursery slopes.   
On the last night of our holiday we met, by chance, a lovely family whose daughter had been in ski school with our son.  We started chatting about all the special things about Saas- Fee until I asked where they were staying:  When they replied “In our own apartment.”  fireworks went off in my head and at the same time a calm descended upon me because I knew, in that instant, what I wanted to do.  What had been a vague notion became my clear precise goal.  I was going to design my dream ski holiday apartment.  They pointed us in the right direction and the right people and 18 hours later I had chosen Sonnenhof!  Since then there has not been a backward step.

Naming the Apartment
 "Belina" is next door to SonnehofSonnenhof translates as sunny place in English so we named the apartment Sonnenhof Juliet.   

 ".....But, soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun......"   
Juliet comes from the famous soliloquy (and most famous metaphor) in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Romeo compares her to the Sun changing his life for the better. The apartment also has a south facing balcony and I'm forever the romantic!

We also noticed lots of the hotels and apartments have female names in Switzerland. "Belinda", is just next door.

Design

I believe a holiday home is not just somewhere to recharge but an integral part of the whole experience.  I have designed Sonnenhof- Juliet to elevate your holidaying so that when you descend from those heavenly mountains, you will be able to continue your journey into another beautiful scene, one of relaxed luxurious contemporary Swiss design. Care has been taken with all aspects of the project from the wider design concept and ambience to intimate details right down to things you touch and feel.​

Ski to Locker

One of the most important things to make or break a ski holiday is minimising the palava getting you and your kit to the slopes.  Although Sonnenhof Juliet does have a shared ski room, to make life easier guests can enjoy the ultimate convenience of a heated locker next to the nursery slopes for 4 included in your stay for four guests.  At Cesar Palace you can both hire and store your equipment in a dedicated locker and take the stress away from getting to the lifts or ski school with your gear.  Cesar Palace is a 5 minute walk from the apartment and your ski equipment will be ready waiting for you dried out, warm and waiting for you the next day. And what a relief that can be with children in toe!

For the Love of Fabrics

Discover gorgeous fabrics throughout with bespoke blinds, curtains cushions and more. Daughter of a textile artist, Claire absolutely loves designing with fabrics, mixing and matching pattern, playing with trims and styling.

Eco Credentials

Sonnehof Juliet is one of the first properties in Saas-Fee to be heated by the village ground source heat pump. The apartment was completed in 2023 and is a complete new build on the site of an old hotel.  Highly insulated, south facing, furnished with natural materials, low emissivity glass and triple glazing are all working together to keep energy usage down and produce a natural environment with longevity for the future. 50% of the apartment is clad in timber, the roof structure is made of  timber and a large percentage of the interior is also timber. The electricity in Saas-fee is also entirely environmentally produced; Mattmark dam, the largest natural dam in Europe, produces enough hydro electricity to power the entire village. The village being car free also creates a clean and safe child friendly atmosphere.

Collaborations

Claire has collaborated with graphic and fine art artists and makers to create a bespoke interior uniquely rooted in Saas-fee. For more insight see link below.

Management

The apartment is managed by Allalin Apartments under the umbrella of Hotel Allalin delivering a high standard of service;  therefore there will always be somebody to help you if you need anything or have an issue with the apartment.

If you are holidaying with a bigger group you might like to know about the apartment on the ground floor under Sonnenhof Juliet or the dramatic penthouse above.  Both have different owners but the ground floor apartment is also available through Allalin apartments like Sonnenhof Juliet.
